Black Panther Tops Lifetime Gross Of Marvel, DC, and X-Men Movies

With $426 million at the worldwide box office after a slow rollout overseas and a record-shattering domestic bow over the holiday weekend, Marvel Studio’s blockbuster superhero release Black Panther is heading for a big second weekend performance. By close of business Sunday, it will leap into at least the top-12 all-time superhero grosses in North America, if not higher, and a worldwide tally approaching $600+/- million.

Black Panther’s four-day domestic cume passed $241 million, instantly exceeding the lifetime theatrical domestic takes of recent superhero pictures Justice League and Logan, as well as the North American totals for more than 1/3 of all MCU titles (Doctor Strange, Thor: The Dark World, Thor, Ant-Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Incredible Hulk) and every Fox X-Men franchise release except Deadpool.

After next weekend, director Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed hit will have amassed approximately $330-350+/- million in domestic theaters, but with big enough weekday attendance figures and a stronger hold on its second weekend, it might even Deadpool for that #11 position on the all-time domestic box office list. That ranking would also put it ahead of all but two of Sony’s six Spider-Man pictures (including the recent Spider-Man: Homecoming), and every DCEU release except Wonder Woman. Remember, we’re talking about Black Panther’s position just 10 days into domestic release.

Inevitably, Black Panther will climb much higher, on its way to a stateside total sure to exceed $400 million and possibly as high as $440+ million, depending on how front-loaded it turns out to be. The data strongly suggests a final domestic multiplier closer to 2.2x range (meaning the three-day opening weekend box office multiplied by 2.2), which would push it to $444 million. If it’s slightly more front-loaded and has bigger weekly drops on par with Batman v Superman (which had a 1.99x multiplier) it would still finish with $402 million in North America. That’s the “worst-case” at this point. A moderate mid-range might be $424 million from a 2.1x final multiplier, or a higher-end $464 million haul if it manages a 2.3x multiplier.

Notice, we aren’t even talking about the possibility it could play more like Suicide Squad’s 2.3+x multiplier, Guardians of the Galaxy’s 3.5+x multiplier, Deadpool’s 2.7+x multiplier, or Wonder Woman’s 3.99+x multiplier. Those films all wowed with openings bigger than expected, having tremendous buzz and positive word of mouth that gave them phenomenally strong legs even when facing significant competition from other new releases. Should Black Panther prove to be similarly suited for a marathon run, then it could very realistically approach $500 million in domestic receipts.

That might sound crazy, but an awful lot of people thought a $200 million three-day opening in February sounded crazy, too, but here we are. So while I’m inclined to think a more typical MCU multiplier is more likely, I think a 2.4x or 2.5x result is definitely within the realm of possibility, and that would put Black Panther over $480+ million and give it a solid chance at $500+ million. So just remember, it won’t even take a particularly bigger-than-usual result for the film to reach those heights.

Every reasonable equation now puts Black Panther well within the all-time top-10 grossing superhero releases at the North American box office, at position #8 or #9 on the lower end of probable performance, or as high #5 on the moderate-higher end of potential (meaning a 2.2 multiplier). A 2.3x multiplier would lift Black Panther to the #3 all-time domestic box office spot, behind only The Avengers and The Dark Knight.

Not counting Avengers films, Black Panther will probably become the highest-grossing release in the MCU, unless it really does have a worst-case 1.99x multiplier leaving it about $7 million shy of Iron Man 3. Most likely, though, it will finish at least north of $420 million to claim the #5 all-time position.

Worldwide, I expect a roughly 50/50 split between domestic and foreign receipts, give or take a couple of percentage points. That would translate to a global cume of roughly $840+ million to $880+ million, depending on Black Panther’s final domestic numbers and how well it plays in certain remaining markets. There’s a good chance it will top $900 million, but we have to see how it holds the next couple of weeks before we can really be sure if $900 million is more likely than not.

But even if Black Panther does wind up with that worst-case 1.99x multiplier domestically, and if the foreign receipts are actually slightly behind domestic sales, Black Panther is going to wind up in the $800 million range, which is undeniably a massive success, giving Marvel Studios its fourth straight $800+ million title in two years. Since we can expect Avengers: Infinity War to cross the $1 billion mark, that means Marvel’s $800+ million streak will inevitably extend to five films a few months from now.

Black Panther remains the best-reviewed live-action superhero movie of all time, the fifth-biggest opening weekend in history, and is destined to be one of the biggest success stories of the year. Its impressive opening weekend, and its ability to overtake so many previous blockbusters in a matter of days, is just the beginning.

It seems like we have been waiting forever for Lil Wayne’s highly anticipated album “Tha Carter V,” to drop.
There has seemed to be some back and forth between Birdman and Lil Wayne that has put a hold on the project’s release, but Birdman is guaranteeing that the album will drop this year.
While promoting his new documentary “Before Anythang: The Cash Money Story,” Birdman talked to  RAP UP and guaranteed the album’s release.
He said, “We’ll get that this year. I’m guaranteeing you gon’ get it this year.” When asked if there was a more specific timeline he responded, “That’s on Tunechi, whatever he wants to do, but I’m guaranteeing you’re gonna get it this year.”
He proceeded to say that he heard a few of the tracks on the project.
“He is the best ever to me,” said Birdman. “A lot of success comes from under his umbrella. I think it’s gonna be the biggest album of 2018, one of them. Without a doubt. It’s gonna be well worth the wait.”

Olympics Will Allow Transgender Competitors for 2018 Winter Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that it would allow transgender athletes to compete in whatever category they wish to participate in during the 2018 Winter Olympics, a report says.

IOC officials  noted that they will not require athletes to compete in categories that match their birth gender nor will there be any gender or sex testing of competitors ahead of the games, Daily Caller reported.
“With regard to Hyperandrogenism in female athletes, there were no regulations in place at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and there will be no regulations in place at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 as we are still awaiting the resolution of the Dutee Chand case,” the IOC recently claimed.
The Dutee Chand case concerns the Indian sprinter who is fighting rules that prevent her from competing because she exhibits “female hyperandrogenism,” and has too many natural male traits which may give her an advantage over female opponents.
She was banned from competition because her natural testosterone levels exceeded the IOC’s rules. However, India is appealing the ruling.
This isn’t the first case of  “female hyperandrogenism.” The charge was also made in the case of South African runner Mokgadi Caster Semenya who racked up a series of amazing, record breaking wins which eventually forced questions over her gender. Some feared she might have been a transgender man hiding her status. Others felt she may be violating testosterone level requirements to compete in Olympics games.
Tests were made, though not released publicly, and eventually the IOC decided she was female and was not breaking any rules. Rumors leaked out that Semenya may have certain medical conditions giving her some male traits such as heightened levels of testosterone.
The testosterone level requirements themselves then came under fire for lack of scientific certainty.
As The New York Times  wrote last year, “…the arbitration panel noted, science has not conclusively shown that elevated testosterone provides women with more of a significant competitive edge than factors like nutrition, access to coaching and training facilities, and other genetic and biological variations.”
Some worry that Olympics rules have not caught up to sports medicine and science. Though, more worry that with the rise of transgender lifestyles, the specter of unfair competition lurks.

That fear has become fact in several cases in U.S. high schools, where biological teenage girls were pitted against teen boys claiming to be transgender girls. The results of those encounters, predictably,  were that biological girls lost those contests to the transgender students.

Drake gives away almost $1 million in 'God's Plan' music video

Drake, the world’s best-selling artist of 2016, followed it up with a challenge on Instagram urging his fans to “go out and be nice to each other.”
The “God’s Plan” video upended the usual lavish efforts from music production companies, and instead showed Drake handing out wads of cash to struggling families, toys to children, scholarships to students and checks to a women’s shelter and a youth club in Miami, Florida.
“The budget for this video was $996,631.90. We gave it all away. Don’t tell the label,” says the message at the start of the video
Before its release, Drake, 31, called the video “the most important thing I have ever done in my career.”
Emotional fans took to Twitter with effusive praise.
“If you’ve seen Drake’s God’s Plan video and it didn’t hit your heart then I just don’t know. That man’s doing it right,” tweeted one man, Michael McGraw.
“Cried reaaaal tears looking at God’s plan music video. it’s a good life,” a user called Janae wrote on Twitter.
Hours later the Grammy-winning singer issued a challenge on his Instagram saying “let’s all watch the world be nice to each other even if it’s for 24 hours.”
“God’s Plan” has held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the past three weeks.
drake  Hot 100-topping smash hit "God's Plan's" video released today (Feb. 16) and the visual shows 6 God out in Miami literally spreading the wealth to the people. The OVO leader is seen paying for the groceries of everyone in a local supermarket, giving away bundles of cash to families, and handing out academic scholarships.

7 Things the 1% Do That the 99% Don’t

7 Things the 1% Do That the 99% Don’t

The rich are getting richer. The poor are getting poorer. Sad, I know. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You too can get rich, join the 1 percent and start feeling sad for the poor just like I did.

You can even go one step further and reach a digital hand down just like I’m doing right now. Simply reach up, grab my cyber hand (careful, it’s super cyber-y), do the following seven things, and concern for income disparity will soon become a thing of the past.
I mean if enough digital hands reach down, we will all be the 1 percent. The 99 percent will simply vanish. And that, my friend, is the real solution for global overpopulation.

1. Stop liking sleep even slightly.

“Do not love sleep, or you will become poor.” —Solomon

Sleep is super annoying to me. If it wasn’t for sleep, I could read books seven more hours a day. That would mean… let me do the math real quick… … carry the one… uummm… I would be a trillionaire.
Knowledge is power. Power is powerfulOnly powerful people get to have money. They don’t call it currency for no reason. Only weak people with no purpose look forward to sleep and are sad when it’s over. And that’s only partially true now that I think about it. I actually do look forward to sleep. But only because I can’t wait to hurry up and get it over with, wake up and get back to work.
Do you sleep like a baby? Think through the ramifications of your answer to that one. If you answered yes, you’re probably just not thinking hard enough during the day. Or you’re doing too many drugs at night. The smartest people I know are all insomniacs. So if you can simply figure out a way to develop insomnia, I think that will increase your odds of entering the golden gates of 1 Percent Land.
Speaking of 1 Percent Land, someone please invent that. I would much rather take my daughter there than Disney Land where 10-foot-tall ducks chase her around and leave permanent emotional scars and an unnecessary fear of probably all Lands in general.
Seriously though, get sleep by all means You need it. Just don’t like it is all. This is merely a different way of saying you need to have passion and purpose in your life.
The 1 percent have stuff to do. Do you have stuff to do?

2. Be the best.

“It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.” —W. Somerset Maugham

The 1 percent know people like to buy the best products and services possible. So so they make it their goal to be the best and produce the best.
You are going to have a hard time producing the best products and services if you, personally, are not the best. So if you’re not the best, don’t focus so much on your work. Focus on you. Sharpen your skills. Sharpen your mind. Sharpen your abs. It’s hard to not be the best with sharp abs. Impossible almost.
I actually tried to not be the best once just as an experiment to see if I could override the power of my super sharp abs. Ha. I might as well have been trying to talk Donald Trump into doing the sensible thing and shave his head. Just knowing they’re there, rippling under your shirt, begging to rip through the fabric at any given moment and dazzle everyone around you is a huge confidence booster. And you need confidence to be the best and join the 1 percent. Just trust me on this one. I’ve lived life with abs and without. They are like a super power.

3. Value production over playtime.

“The supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play.” —Arnold J. Toynbee

There is a time to work and a time to play. The question is this: What are you living for? What drives you? What are you most looking forward to most of the time? Are you living to work  produce and serve others, with playtime as a pleasant and occasional respite? Or you are you living to play, party and self-serve with work time as an unpleasant but necessary evil that exists to support your playtime?
I hate to be the one to break this to you, but we’re here on earth to work. I’d say the ratio is about six to one in favor of work. But you know what the beauty of this is? Once you internalize that fact and find work you enjoy work time becomes playtime. Right now, as I write this article it doesn’t feel like work. It feels fun. I’m totally energized and enjoying every minute of it.

I realize this makes what I’m doing right now sound unpleasant, but Ernest was a weird guy. “Bleeding is fun,” he used to say.
The 1 percent play all day e’rr day. There are no weekends or weekdays, workdays or vacation days, Sundays or Mondays. They’re all the same. You know you’re living life the way it is intended to be lived when you look forward to work You actually prefer work.
Sound crazy? The 1 percent are crazy.

4. Have the 99 percent do your work for you.

“I would rather make 1 percent of 100 people’s efforts then 100 percent of my own.” —J Paul Getty, richest man in the world in 1957 (I don’t know what happened in 1958—probably something sketchy.)

The 99 percent work. The 1 percent hire the 99 percent. This is not rocket science. If you have a lawn mowing service, the last thing you should ever be doing with your time is personally riding a lawn mower. I mean it looks fun, and I’ve always wondered what it’s like, but I’m guessing the novelty wears off after about one front yard.
Why physically do things to grass and shrubbery when the 99 percent are literally waiting in line to do it for you? Do them a favor and let them do it. You spend your time marketing and getting more clients. And at some point, get someone to do that for you as well, then go start another business. Keep doing this until you just have checks coming in from 100 different places and you barely know what or where any of these places even are. Please don't think I’m kidding. I own two gyms. I have no clue where either one of them are.
Do you work for someone else? That’s OK. Start training for your 1 Percent Day of Reckoning by getting other employees to do all your work for you. I’m not kidding. During Standard Oil’s hay day, John D. Rockefeller had a policy that every employee’s No. 1 priority was to find some other employee to do their job for them. Lol. Ahh the 1 percent. Gosh they’re clever.

You might be wondering who will do the work once the 99 percent vanish, which is of course the goal of this article. Answer: the robots. The robots will do the dirty work. And they will do this until they realize they’re smarter than us. Then they will become the 1 percent, the 99 percent will reappear as robot slaves, and then we’ll have the whole overpopulation problem again, which the robots will solve by annihilating us all. But this is at least 10 years away—maybe even 11. Let’s not worry about it right now.

5. Drive a Lamborghini.

“People say money can’t buy happiness. But have you ever seen anyone crying in a Lamborghini?” —Random Internet Quote

The 1 percent all drive Lamborghinis. Everyone knows this. What kind of car do you drive? Go trade it in for a Lamborghini. Bam. You’ll figure out a way to pay for it I’m sure. Just keep reading my stuff.
Side note: Lamborghinis are literally free passes to park however and wherever you want. [Ed. note: This is satire by the author, and does not reflect the views of SUCCESS magazine.] This is the perk no one tells you about. Feel like parking diagonally across three handicapped spaces in front of the emergency room section of a hospital? Go for it. Park in the ambulance lane right in front of the entrance if you want. It’s a Lambo for crying out loud! You don’t seriously think cops give Lamborghini owners tickets, do you?

Literally, these signs come with the Lamborghini when you buy one. Simply place it in front of wherever you feel like parking.
Oh, and also feel free to drive 300 mph in a 30-mph zone. Or a parking lot. [Ed. note: Seriously, don’t do this.] No one will or can stop you. Not even the repo man when you miss your first three payments.

6. Spend your money on things that make you more money.

“If you don’t know how to care for money, money will stay away from you.” —Robert Kiyosaki

I used to be a 99 percenter. I know the struggle. You get a paycheck, pay your bills, buy as many consumer goods and alcohol as possible with what’s leftover and then you have zero or negative money until your next paycheck. I get it. The 1 percent get it, too, and they love it because you keep giving them your money.
Do you like your life? Are you happy right where you’re at? There’s about a 1 percent chance your answer is yes. If your answer is no, you simply need to reprioritize and practice self - control.Just stop and ask yourself, Self, should I really buy these Gucci shoes, or would it be smarter to buy stock in Gucci?
Why do all my friends have Lamborghinis and not me?
That was a trick question. Either way, Gucci wins. What would be smarter is to save your money and use it to start your own business at some point. Why buy Gucci when you can compete against them?
And you can compete against absolutely anyone. Don’t be intimidated. A friend of mine’s daughter just created a line of handbags and got them in Neiman Marcus. That's right… same section as Gucci. Guccio Gucci (no joke, that is his real name) started out just as broke and desperate as everyone else. I think. Actually I’m just assuming that. For all I know, he was born into an elite, royal, Illuminati bloodline.

7. Give as much money away as possible.

“Give and it will be given to you.” —Jesus

This sounds insane, I know. And you might not even believe it, but those evil money-hungry 1 percenters give away more money than the entire 99 percent combined. Not all of their motives are pure of course. But some of them are. I’d like to think mine are.
The time to start doing this is right now no matter how much money you make or have or don’t make and don't have. If you don't do it now, you won't do it when you’re a 1 percenter. And you have a much better chance of becoming a 1 percenter if you give now.
God smiles on givers and you very often end up receiving your money back with interest. For example, about a month ago I donated a $3,000 drum set to my church. The very next day I received $300,000—out of the blue (the blue what?). Was that the reason I gave? No. Does that happen every time? I wish. But it happens often enough.
Also, if you somehow manage to achieve 1 percent status without giving, not only will you lower your chances of ever being generous, you will amplify your chances of becoming greedy. God does not smile on greed. I wouldn’t unpack your bags.

Moral of the article:

There is no moral to this article. It’s just a random collection of words that appeared in my head that I transferred to a computer screen. But I will say this: I come from a middle class family. I barely graduated high school (if I did at all). I skipped college, joined the rat race selling things door to door, racked up consumer debt like everyone else, filed bankruptcy, had my house foreclosed on, got my cars repo’d and had no money to eat—all by the age of 25. There’s something to be said for making all the biggest mistakes humanly possible in life around the same age your friends are graduating college.
By age 30 I owned my own real estate investing company and became a multi-millionaire. Now I own multiple businesses (that other people run for me), live in multiple waterfront homes, drive luxury cars, married a luxury woman, had a luxury baby and recently sold a software business for darn near eight figures.
I tell you all that just to say that I know what it’s like to struggle just to make ends meet—just to be able to eat. If that’s you—if you’re living week to week—just know that it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s easier than you might think. And I don’t care what your family and friends’ lives are like. Get new family and friends.
Here is the real secret to 1 percent success: You become your mental and social environment over time.  Your brain absorbs it, mentally rehearses it and manifests it automatically. Books, music, friends, TV… anything you see, hear, think and say.
Change your thoughts........ change your life . I did it; you can do it.

Weird Facts About The Smith Family

Will Smith has been on a bit of a career skid for the past decade. Of the last 10 movies he’s starred in, only two were critical successes (Concussion and Men in Black III) while winning multiple Razzie awards. Despite this drop in acclaim, studio executives are still willing to write Will Smith massive checks to star in their movies.
Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith is a successful actress of her own with roles in GothamHawthorne, and the Madagascar series that has led to her own reported net worth of $20 million.
This Hollywood power couple has been together since 1997 and have two children together, Jaden (19) and Willow (17). With the help of his parents, Jaden has s starred in multiple movies such as, After EarthThe Pursuit of Happiness, and 2010’s remake of The Karate Kid. Meanwhile Willow’s first single “Whip My Hair” hit number 11 on the US charts in 010 on its way to going platinum.
Despite an immense amount of success and talent, a lot of rumors have spread about the family for years.
From bizarre parenting techniques to cheating allegations, here are 20 Dark Secrets You Didn’t Know About Will Smith And His Family.

20. WILL SMITH AND JADA PINKETT SMITH HAVE AN ALLEGEDLY OPEN MARRIAGE

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been married for over 20 years, but for a long time rumors have circulated that the two are actually in an open relationship.
It would even appear that Jada isn’t afraid to talk about it. She’s been asked about her supposedly open marriage multiple times and has gone on record about it.

“Here’s the deal with that, Howard, you’ve got to trust who you’re with. And at the end of the day, I’m not here to be anybody’s watcher,” Jada told Howard Stern in 2015. “I’m not his watcher. He’s a grown man. Here’s what I trust — I trust that the man that Will is, is the man of integrity. So, he’s got all the freedom in the world. As long as Will can look himself in the mirror and be okay, I’m good.”

19. THE FAMILY IS RUMORED TO BE SECRET SCIENTOLOGISTS

There a lot of celebrities who have confirmed that they are Scientologists. There are also a lot of celebrities who are rumored to be members of the controversial and mysterious religion. Perhaps Scientology’s most famous rumored members are the family of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Anti-Scientologist activist Leah Remini told InTouch that Jada has “been in Scientology a long time,” but Jada denies the allegation.
Jada fired back shortly after with a Facebook post in which she said, “I have prayed in mosques all over the world… but I am not a Muslim; I have read the Bhagavad Gita… but I am not a Hindu; I have chanted and meditated in some of the most magnificent temples on earth… but I am not a Buddhist; and I have studied Dianetics, and appreciate the merits of Study Tech… but I am not a Scientologist.”

18. THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF CHEATING RUMORS

Will and Jada have admitted to having past trouble in their marriage, and there has been infidelity rumors about the two for a long time. The latest rumors surround an alleged affair between Will and Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie. The Star reported that the two actors stepped into a photo booth for some racy photos.
“I’ve done a lot of marriage counseling,” Smith told The Sun in 2016. “What happens in a marriage once you do counseling, the truth comes out. And you sit across from your wife and you’ve said all of your truth and she has said all of her truth. You look at each other and you can’t imagine you could ever possibly love each other again now the truth is out.”

17. CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES INVESTIGATED THE FAMILY

After a controversial photo was posted online featuring Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s 13-year-old daughter in bed with a shirtless 20-year-old, an investigation was opened by The Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services. The department opened the investigation after an anonymous tipster suggested that they were worried about the teenager’s safety and well being.
“Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have been extremely cooperative with officials,” an unnamed source told Radar Online in 2014. “Of course, they aren’t happy that their parenting skills are under scrutiny, but they understand.”
“Here’s the deal,” Jada told a TMZ cameraman in 2014. “There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation. You guys are projecting your trash onto it and you’re acting like covert pedophiles, and that’s not cool.”

16. WILL IS EMBARRASSED BY HIS EARLIER WORK

Even before his star-making role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith was a very successful musician in the late 80s under the stage name “The Fresh Prince.” He was approached by NBC to star in a new series for them despite being a first-time actor with no training.
Will Smith may have warmed his way into the hearts of millions of people because of that role, but, now, he says he’s embarrassed by his performance.
“It was my very first role, and I was very, very focused on being successful, so I learned the whole script and everyone else’s lines,” Smith said on The Graham Norton Show in December. “If you watch the first four or five episodes, you can see I’m mouthing other people’s lines. It’s terrible and I can’t bear to watch it.”

15. WILL AND JADA DON’T BELIEVE IN DISCIPLINING THEIR KIDS

Will and Jada have come under a lot of fire over the years for their unique approach to parenting. Perhaps the most controversial aspect to their parenting style has been the fact that they don’t believe in disciplining their kids.
“We don’t do punishment,” Will told E Online in 2013 “The way that we deal with our kids is, they are responsible for their lives. Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible and the concept of punishment, our experience has been—it has a little too much of a negative quality. “So when they do things—and you know, Jaden, he’s done things—you can do anything you want as long as you can explain to me why that was the right thing to do for your life.”

14. WILL MIGHT REGRET HIS PARENTING DECISIONS

Will Smith is incredibly proud of his kids, but also thinks he might have gone too far while parenting them.
“I think we might have gone too far,” Smith told BBC in 2016. “Jaden is 100 percent fearless, he will do anything. So as a parent it’s scary, it’s really terrifying — but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn’t concern himself with what people think.
Regardless of what Will thinks, Jaden seems to appreciate his father’s approach.
“You’re the best father anyone could ask for,” Jaden recently posted on his father’s Instagram page. “Thank you for allowing me to express myself even when I take it to far sometimes. I love you more than you will ever know because you taught me how to love. Also, thank you for having the best Instagram on planet earth.”

13. WILL SMITH IS POPULAR AT GUANTANAMO BAY

Harry Potter was a long time favorite of the prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center, a controversial American military prison in the southeastern edge of Cuba, but it has been more recently supplanted by Will Smith’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
“I just ordered all six seasons,” librarian Milton, a Defense Department contractor who gives only his first name to visiting journalists, told The Miami Herald in 2012. The librarian wasn’t able to give a specific reason that the show had become so popular, but did go on to say that comedies were often among the most popular requested items from the detention center’s library.
Other series and books that Milton went on to say were either popular or had been popular in the past included The Cosby Show, The Hunger Games, and Twilight.

12. AT 13, WILLOW HAD A STRANGE RELATIONSHIP WITH A GROWN MAN

There was an uproar in 2014 when Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s daughter, then 13-year-old Willow, had a picture of her in bed with a shirtless 20-year-old actor named Moises Arias. The picture shows the teenage lounging on the edge of a bed while the former Hannah Montana star sits shirtless with his lower half below bedsheets.
The photo prompted an investigation from child protective services who later dropped the investigation.
A source close to the investigation told Radar Online that they discovered, “no evidence presented that Willow has ever been in any danger around Moises, or that she has ever been physically or emotionally abused.” The source went on to add that they found Willow to be “a very well adjusted, smart, and articulate young lady.”

11. STUDIO EXECUTIVES ARE WEIRDED OUT BY THE FAMILY

Jaden and Willow Smith gave a bizarre interview to The New York Time’s style magazine in 2015. When talking about the themes in her music Willow said, “this is a fragment of a holographic reality that a higher consciousness made.”
This was apparently enough to weird out at least one executive at Sony Pictures Entertainment. An email leaked in 2015 in which Tom Rothman (known to some as Bad Tom) sent out an email to fellow executives with several quotes from Jaden and Willow Smith. He also added, “they r home schooled: don’t let this family date your movies!!!”
Will Smith took the whole thing in stride. “Everybody disses my kids,” Smith told Variety. “To me, that’’s just part of the business. And somebody’s email is private, you know? So I would never hold anybody responsible for something they said in a private email. I shouldn’’t even know about it.”

10. WILL AND JADA HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF “BEARDING”

Despite having two children, rumors have circulated that Will and Jada are actually using their relationship to disguise the fact that they’re both gay.
“When Jada comes out as Gay and her beard husband admits his first marriage ended when she walked in to him servicing his Sugar Daddy Benny Medina ..then I will listen to them,” transgender actress Alexis Arquette posted on Facebook after Jada announced she would be boycotting the 2015 Academy Awards. She went on to add “Will threw a fit on the set of [Six Degrees of Separation] when he was required by the scene to kiss Anthony Rapp. He persuaded the director to shoot the back of his head in frame. Blocking the non existent lip lock entirely. Gays have enemies. They lurk in gilded closets. Outing is healthy. You are either with or against us. You decide. Today.”

9. WILL SMITH IS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD AT SOLVING RUBIK’S CUBES

In The Pursuit of Happyness Will Smith plays Chris Gardner a real-life character who went from being homeless to becoming a successful businessman and entrepreneur. One pivotal scene in the show shows Will Smith’s character solving an “unsolvable” Rubik’s cube in front of a potential employer. This was something that Will Smith actually learned to do for the role.
“After an hour and a half, [people typically] can solve the Rubik’s Cube with a sheet of instructions on it, without any input from me,” Tyson Mao, a consultant on the film told the Chicago Tribune in 2007. “After 10 hours, Will Smith was able to solve the Rubik’s Cube on his own, without anything. Not only learning the process but committing it to memory.”
Smith went on to put his skills to the test, solving a Rubik’s cube live on air in 2006.

8. WILL SMITH ONCE OWED MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO THE IRS

Initially, Will Smith had opposed the idea of starring in a television show because he was afraid of looking like a sellout. His radio-friendly songs were already giving him and DJ Jazzy Jeff a reputation as “rap sellouts.” He thought that taking the role would likely mean the end of his music career.
Unfortunately for Will, around this time the star had neglected to pay $2.8 million in taxes, money that he didn’t have. With practically perfect timing executives at NBC approach Will with an idea for a TV show called The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, a role that came with a considerable paycheck.
The IRS eventually seized a number of Will Smith’s possessions and took 70% of his Fresh Prince earnings through the first three seasons, but, eventually, the debt was paid off and Will Smith became one of the highest paid stars in Hollywood.

7. WILL WAS A MILLIONAIRE BEFORE HE TURNED 20

Will Smith has been famous for practically his entire adult life. Like his character in Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Will Smith was born in West Philadelphia in 1968. His father was a refrigeration engineer and his mother was a school board administrator

“My mother, who worked for the School Board of Philadelphia, had a friend who was the admissions officer at MIT,” Smith said. “I had pretty high SAT scores and they needed black kids, so I probably could have gotten in. But I had no intention of going to college.”
Instead of going to college Smith decided to try his hand at music with his longtime friend Jeffrey Townes. Together the duo gained critical acclaim, became multi-millionaires, and won the first-ever Grammy award given for rap music.

6. WILL SMITH GOT TO PICK HIS CHARACTER’S NAME ON FRESH PRINCE

As part of his contract when he signed on to Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Will Smith, and a couple other co-stars, were allowed to pick the name of his character. Will Smith and co-star Alfonso Ribeiro decided to brainstorm ideas for their character’s names together.
Alfonso advised Will that he should be very careful in picking his characters name because, if the show became a hit, it would be the name that everyone would call him in public. In order to prevent confusion (and possibly assert his own personal brand), Will Smith decided to name his character “Will.” Ironically Alfonso decided to go with the name “Carlton,” which is still the only name most people know him as.
At first, there was pushback from executives at NBC, but they relented because Will Smith already had a substantial amount of name recognition that could attract views to the show.

5. JADEN’S EX WAS CHARGED WITH A FELONY (WHILE THEY WERE DATING)

In early 2015, then 15-year-old Jaden Smith started dating model and Instagram star Sarah Snyder who was 18 at the time. The couple was together for over two years before splitting up in the spring of 2017.
A year into their relationship, in June of 2016, Sarah Snyder was arrested for a felony charge of one count of third-degree larceny. The arrest came after a high-end store in Katonah, New York reported a blonde female who had entered the store and walked out with a Hermes handbag worth $15,995.
There were four eyewitnesses who claimed they saw Snyder steal the purse, but Snyder claimed she was in Florida at the time. The charges were later dropped in February of 2016, but the model stirred up controversy when she posted a picture of herself wearing a t-shirt with her mugshot printed on it.

4. JADEN AND WILLOW MAKE THEIR OWN MUSIC BECAUSE THEY DON’T LIKE ANYONE ELSE’S

Will Smith’s kids have been the source of a lot of controversies, but there is no denying that they have a lot of creative ambition. The brother and sister duo have starred in multiple movies and have both become successful artists and musicians.
One of the reasons that Jaden and Willow decided to create music is that they didn’t like the music that was being made by other artists.
“Honestly, we’re just trying to make music that we think is cool,” Jaden told T Magazine in 2014. “We don’t think a lot of the music out there is that cool. So we make our own music. We don’t have any song that we like to listen to on the P.C.H. by any other artist, you know?”

3. WILLOW’S FAVORITE BOOKS ARE THE ONES SHE WROTE HERSELF

In addition to their musical careers and aspirations, T Magazine’s interview with Jaden and Willow Smith touched on a variety of topics including controlling time, Prana energy, and dual consciousness.
When asked what books they had been reading, then 13 year old Willow said she had been reading books on quantum physics and the writings of Indian guru Rajneesh (whose followers created a bioterror attack in Oregon in 1984) while Jaden said he was working on The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life and various other “ancient texts.”
Willow would later go on to say, “There’re no novels that I like to read so I write my own novels, and then I read them again, and it’s the best thing.” With Jaden adding, “Willow’s been writing her own novels since she was 6.”
None of Willow’s novels have been published, but several lists of satirical titles have come out.

2. JADEN WANTS TO BE THE CRAZIEST PERSON OF ALL TIME

Despite his relatively successful acting and music careers, Jaden Smith is probably best known for his ridiculous tweets. With great Twitter quotes like, “How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren’t real” and “If newborn babies could speak they’d be the most intelligent beings on earth,” Jaden is well on his way to reaching his goal of becoming the craziest person of all time.
“I have a goal to be just the most craziest person of all time,” Jaden told T Magazine in 2014. “And when I say craziest, I mean, like, I want to do like Olympic-level things. I want to be the most durable person on the planet.”
“I think by the time we’re 30 or 20,” his sister Willow added. “We’re going to be climbing as many mountains as we can possibly climb.”

1. WILL SMITH ALLEGEDLY GOT AUNT VIV FIRED

Between season three and season four of Fresh Prince, there was a major casting shakeup. Janet Hubert-Whitten, who had played Aunt Viv for the first three seasons, abruptly left the show and was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid. There had been rumors that Hubert was difficult to work with, and, to this day, she and Will Smith don’t get along.
“I can say straight up that Janet Hubert wanted the show to be ‘The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show’ because I know she is going to dog me in the press,” Smith told an Atlanta radio station in 1993. “She has basically gone from a quarter of a million dollars a year to nothing. She’s mad now but she’s been mad all along.”
Fresh Prince co-star Alfonso Ribeiro also said about the Hubert, “Basically, at the end of the day, [she] was crazy. She went nuts!”
